The Pitch: The Moondance Glow from Altec Lansing is an iPod dock speaker system with a number of interesting features, not the least of which is the “glow” part. The glow aspect of the Moondance comes from a set of multicolor LEDs that can illuminate the wall behind the device, which Altec Lansing claims can be good for entertainment, relaxing, or just setting the mood. The Moondance Glow also features a dual-alarm clock with a large remote snooze button, which is pretty novel. The Moondance Glow comes with a regular remote for managing music playback, too. It retails for $179.95.
Pros: The remote control is nice to have, but that large remote snooze button means that you can place the Moondance optimally in your bedroom and still have the snooze button be no more than a nightstand away.
Cons: The glow part of the device is horribly corny and will likely be something that people get tired of in no time at all.
Recommendation: While I like the remote snooze button idea an awful lot, and I can appreciate the difficulties in differentiating a product in a crowded space like iPod-compatible speakers, I just don’t think a remote snooze button is enough to justify the Moondance Glow moving on in the Last Gadget Standing competition.
