The Pitch: Standard 5.1 surround sound was revolutionary — in its day. But as moviemakers, game designers, and special-effects artists have pushed the envelope, standard home theater has struggled to keep up. Not anymore. By adding a ButtKicker to your existing home theater, you’ll feel the action just as the director intended. Your new ButtKicker wireless kit sends bass — accurately, powerfully, and musically — directly into your couch, chair, or seat. The result is a connection to the action that standard 5.1 surround can’t touch.

Pros: The ButtKicker makes movies “feelable”. One unit can make a whole sofa — and the people sitting on it — shake. The wireless signal transfer is great, as no cables run from the TV to couch. The all-in-one kit is reasonably priced at $300.

Cons: The ButtKicker units are visible if the couch is not right up against a wall.

Recommendation: This might be the Last Gadget Standing: The ButtKicker itself is not new, but it’s a great concept, and the latest wireless kit BKA300 is very easy to use and install. The ButtKicker Kit and the idea of attaching it to your sofa is fun, and it definitely works and enhances the home theater experience. New movie theaters will get the same technology, but you can be ahead of them in your own home.

How it works:

We welcome any and all 'hot' products slated to appear at CES. Our experts screen them. They'll continue to narrow the list until we get to a Top 25 and then a Top 10. We'll also conduct a online vote among the Top 25 to determine a "people's winner." The Top 10 will appear at a CES supersession where a live voting audience will determine which deserves to be the Last Gadget Standing.

When: Saturday, 10:30 a.m., Jan. 9, 2010

Where: Room N255-257, LVCC, North Hall, 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
