The Pitch: BlackBerry makes a bold assertion that the Bold is not merely a smartphone, but a stylish device that empowers your passion and simplifies your life.

Pros: It really is a BlackBerry and packs in all of the key features for such a device — excellent keyboard, email, and organizer — yet it is a stylish and multimedia-friendly smartphone.

Cons: It doesn’t really bring any innovation to the table — it’s neither a truly new BlackBerry, nor the best multimedia phone out there.

Recommendation: I recommend that the Bold moves to the next round! It isn’t perfect, but which one is? It combines the typically rich business features of every BlackBerry, with a decent multimedia pack, into a sleek body, RIM has created an excellent product that should be considered by anyone who’s serious about business.

The Bold has a number of problems with it so should not be in the Top 25. Orange in the UK temporarily stopped shipping it until a firmware update to fix the problems. Now the firmware update is in place and the problems are not fixed, they have now stopped selling it completely due to a very high return rate.
The problems include dropping and being unable to make and receive calls even in good coverage areas.

How it works:

We welcome any and all 'hot' products slated to appear at CES. Our experts screen them. They'll continue to narrow the list until we get to a Top 25 and then a Top 10. We'll also conduct a online vote among the Top 25 to determine a "people's winner." The Top 10 will appear at a CES supersession where a live voting audience will determine which deserves to be the Last Gadget Standing.

When: Saturday, 10:30 a.m., Jan. 9, 2010

Where: Room N255-257, LVCC, North Hall, 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
