The Pitch: It’s the AC adapter to replace all adapters in your briefcase or backpack. Sleek, futuristic design saves space. It has the power to charge your most notebooks as well as your mobile phone, PDA, iPod and more via the built-in USB power port. Included airline cable connects your notebook to airplane power outlet in the seat. Uses 33 percent less energy than other adapters.
Pros: It’s thin, it’s light, and it means you don’t have to worry about packing every friggin’ different adapter for every friggin’ gadget you’re packing. And if that’s not enough of an incentive, it’s green. Use the extra space it saves to pack a tree. (That’s a joke, folks.)
Cons: Convenience comes with a cost, in this case $139.99 worth of cost — an expense that’s been created because every friggin’ manufacturer of every rechargeable gadget insists on using an AC adapter with it’s own friggin’ proprietary tip. Plus, that airline seat cable would be great — if you could only find more than the rare friggin’ seat that actually had an outlet.
Recommendation: I’ve owned earlier versions of the Kensington’s thin notebook adapters. I liked them. But this doesn’t break enough new ground by way of size or price to merit moving ahead in the competition.
