The Pitch: Every rock star wannabe of a certain age has his or her Shure microphone and dreams of their big break. But Shure’s top-notch microphones predominated in an analog world until the release of the Shure X2U XLR-USB. It’s a small accessory that connects any XLR microphone to a computer, to create what it says are better-than-CD-quality recordings.

Pros: Nice design that fits with the Shure line of products. The X2U uses USB to connect to the PC, so it’s an easy setup. The adapter can work with any XLR microphone as well.

Cons: Unless you’re really attached to your microphone, just go out and buy digital. There are numerous products for producing reasonable-quality home recordings.

Recommendation: Neat, but no world-changer. The Shure deserves props, but not a nod to move on.

This is a really useful device,

I don't know what this is about
    'Neat, but no world-changer'

But if I can understand what your saying Its clear you have no idea what the product is for! and how useful such a device could be. Any changes can be made later on a computer and non-destructively.

How it works:

We welcome any and all 'hot' products slated to appear at CES. Our experts screen them. They'll continue to narrow the list until we get to a Top 25 and then a Top 10. We'll also conduct a online vote among the Top 25 to determine a "people's winner." The Top 10 will appear at a CES supersession where a live voting audience will determine which deserves to be the Last Gadget Standing.

When: Saturday, 10:30 a.m., Jan. 9, 2010

Where: Room N255-257, LVCC, North Hall, 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
