The Pitch: Walk into virtually any home or office and you will find a wireless router. Many wireless routers share similar designs making the majority of them ugly devices that are better left unseen. Hiding the wireless router isn’t always an option in some settings, meaning the router ends up on top of a desk or otherwise out in the open. D-Link has created the first wireless router that is intended to be left out in the open for all to see. The DIR-685 features a digital photo frame built-in along with storage that allows the frame to store images locally.
Pros: The real innovative feature of the router is its integrated digital photo frame that makes it something you show off rather than hide under a desk.
Cons: Offers little innovation if the digital photo frame doesn’t intrigue you.
Recommendation: As with any democratic process, what you want doesn’t always happen. I happen to find the DIR-685 router very intriguing and think that many users would gladly pay for a router with a digital photo frame. However, the other judges felt differently and after the votes were cast, the D-Link DIR-685 didn’t make the cut.
