The Pitch: It’s the world’s first USB backup product. With capacities up to 64GB, the new backup USB flash drive is designed to protect your photos, music, videos, games, documents, and other types of digital files with a simple touch of a button. Plug in the drive, and the backup software loads automatically. In addition to your digital life, SanDisk Ultra protects your work with a dual layer of both password-protection and AES hardware encryption.

Pros: Never mind that so many of us stand so much to lose when it comes to our digital files. We still hate to back up regularly. Why? Because it’s a hassle. The SanDisk Ultra Backup promises to make it less so — and by using a comforting familiar form factor, namely the thumb drive.

Cons: The Ultra tops out at 64GB, which may not be quite enough to make it the go-to backup device in your life.

Recommendation: Anything that makes backing up easier is worth another look. I recommend this move forward in the competition.

Our Host: Robin Raskin

How it works:

We welcome any and all 'hot' products slated to appear at CES. Our experts screen them. They'll continue to narrow the list until we get to a Top 25 and then a Top 10. We'll also conduct a online vote among the Top 25 to determine a "people's winner." The Top 10 will appear at a CES supersession where a live voting audience will determine which deserves to be the Last Gadget Standing.

When: Saturday, 10:30 a.m., Jan. 9, 2010

Where: Room N255-257, LVCC, North Hall, 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
