The Pitch: While we all worry about Big Brother watching us, there are times in life when individuals need to take on the role of the watcher. Lorex’s Easy Connect Network IP Camera lets them do that. It connects to home or work wired or wireless networks, and lets you watch what is going on remotely from either a secure website or a 3GPP video compatible cell phone like the Apple iPhone. Cool tricks include a 10x digital zoom, night vision up to 17 feet, and two-way audio. That’s right, you can talk through the device to the people you are monitoring. George Orwell would be impressed.

Pros: It doesn’t require you to run Ethernet cables, which makes installation much easier. Being able to see in the dark and talk to the people through the camera could prove to be very handy, too. Remote monitoring through a phone should provide some parents with peace of mind, as well. Motion detectors can even be configured to send out email alerts.

Cons: It lists for $299, which isn’t chump change.

Recommendation: If you have the money and the need to keep tabs on the kids or the office, Lorex can give you the ability to do that from pretty much anywhere, thanks to its phone and web support. The Wi-Fi connection and two-way audio is really killer, too. I think this one is worth of continuing in the competition.

Its an amazing camera. I have heard of other similar products. My only problem is that I feel it is over priced.

I think it looks really cute. Its def. not an eye sore compaired to those bulky ones I've seen being used in stores. This camera is more modern and something I wouldn't mind having in my home in the future.

I agree with the Cons. It is a little pricy, but so are other cameras and they are very ugly! So in the end it "might" be worth the price if you want something that'll look nice in your home or shop.

Great camera, first time I've seen really easy connect.
I can connect using my iPhone and easily my laptop from anywhere.
Set up is cool, auto detect, sign in and done.
I didn't have to set up my router!

    Cool image quality...
I liked it and will recommend for sure.

How it works:

We welcome any and all 'hot' products slated to appear at CES. Our experts screen them. They'll continue to narrow the list until we get to a Top 25 and then a Top 10. We'll also conduct a online vote among the Top 25 to determine a "people's winner." The Top 10 will appear at a CES supersession where a live voting audience will determine which deserves to be the Last Gadget Standing.

When: Saturday, 10:30 a.m., Jan. 9, 2010

Where: Room N255-257, LVCC, North Hall, 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
