Literally tons of new gadgets from near and distant shores spill out of shipping containers and into our stores every day. New, yes. Cool, almost always. But are they any good? Good enough to deserve your hard-earned dollars?
That’s what the Last Gadget Standing competition at the 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show aims to find out.
Here’s what happens at CES in Las Vegas each year: Journalists and experts of all ilk walk the miles of aisles of products. Eyes glazing over, ears deafened, feet blistered. They see hundreds of me-toos all claiming to be the fastest, smallest, smartest, or some other superlative. They’re hungry for something – anything – different, to break through the cacophony.
But what does an adrenaline-rushed reporter have in common with real people who spend real money buying products that they need to really use? Not much.
That’s why Last Gadget Standing competition is people-powered. Over the next few weeks, we’re going to use our collective wits to weigh in on which products will really survive CES, endure (at least for awhile), and help us get more out of our real lives. And your votes, and the votes of people like you at the show, will determine if a gadget is worth it – or worthless.
You’ll get a glimpse of the contenders right here as our panel of expert screeners — editors from the NetShelter Technology Media network — and I write up brief mini-recommendations of the dozens of products submitted to the competition.
Better yet, you’ll have the opportunity to vote, just like last year, to determine who will join our long and illustrious list of past Last Gadget Standing Winners.
