Top 25 BadgeThe Pitch: Vuzix describes their new Wrap 920AR as “… the world’s first consumer Video Eyewear that with 67 inch “virtual” displays (at 10 feet) and a matching pair of stereo cameras that “look” into the world, finally bringing mixed and augmented reality to life.” Say goodbye to the large, inundating head-mount displays and huge goggles, the Wrap 920AR looks to improve on their current design of the Wrap AV920 by increasing the “virtual” display and adding a pair of stereo cameras to show what Vuzix is calling, “Augmented Reality”; matching a head-mounted display with the environment around you.

Pros: Improving on a current design, the Wrap 920AR uses a fashionable sunglass-style head-mount, with their new “Augmented Reality”. Having a private home theater anywhere that runs on “AA” batteries.

Cons: While the current AV920 model weighing in at just 3 ounces; the new 920AR might tip the scales on the heavy side with the addition of two stereo cameras. The “Augmented Reality” is an innovative idea, but the execution and the software support will be the true test of the technology,

Recommendation: Even though we did not have the Wrap 920AR on hand at the time of the review, the details given by Vuzix are promising. They have improved on their current design in several areas, and with the addition of their “Augmented Reality” technology, the applications for gaming, home, and even commercial use are extensive. We still do not have the wide screen aspect ratio’s and the individual screen resolutions are still 640 x 480, which might turn off a few, but their cost is still affordable for the everyday consumer. I am recommending that the Vuzix Wrap 920AR should move forward and continue in the LGS competition.

You included a gadget you hadn't even used? Lame.
  • VR
Does it support head tracking like Vuzix iWear VR920? and integrated microphone?

It will not be good for any virtual reality games without supporting head tracking!

How it works:

We welcome any and all 'hot' products slated to appear at CES. Our experts screen them. They'll continue to narrow the list until we get to a Top 25 and then a Top 10. We'll also conduct a online vote among the Top 25 to determine a "people's winner." The Top 10 will appear at a CES supersession where a live voting audience will determine which deserves to be the Last Gadget Standing.

When: Saturday, 10:30 a.m., Jan. 9, 2010

Where: Room N255-257, LVCC, North Hall, 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
