lgs_top25_150h.jpgThe Pitch: Crescendo is a discreet and elegant headset for professionals to combine comfort and audio performance. This 8.9 grams state-of-the-art wireless device incorporates a Noise Lock technology for noise cancellation, a transmission noise remover, a wind noise resistance and a voice-command interface. Especially designed for the American market, Crescendo recognizes over 95 percent of American accents and provides the user with a Bing Live Search access to check weather forecasts, restaurant addresses, local businesses contact details, and 511 for traffic conditions. Crescendo offers 5 hours talk time and 7 days standby time.

Pro: A headset is a headset is a headset, until one comes along that integrates Bing Live Search access. When we were discussing gadgets on the judge’s panel, this one drew some oohs and aahs because of that feature alone. As an HTC G1 (Android) user, I’ve found integrated search to be an amazingly helpful feature. To go completely hands-off and have it voice-activated would make it even better. This is exciting. As a final checkmark in the plus column, it is USB firmware upgradeable for future software updates.

Con: There’s a theme here, but the con is the price. Some people may not like paying almost $100 for a headset; even a premium one such as this.

Recommendation: This is an intriguing device; the noise cancellation and dual-mic setup means this is probably a top performer in its category, even without the integration of voice commands and live search. Once you factor in those features, it becomes a recommendation from me to move it on up in the competition.

How it works:

We welcome any and all 'hot' products slated to appear at CES. Our experts screen them. They'll continue to narrow the list until we get to a Top 25 and then a Top 10. We'll also conduct a online vote among the Top 25 to determine a "people's winner." The Top 10 will appear at a CES supersession where a live voting audience will determine which deserves to be the Last Gadget Standing.

When: Saturday, 10:30 a.m., Jan. 9, 2010

Where: Room N255-257, LVCC, North Hall, 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
