The Pitch: Power surge protection and the quality of electricity supplying a computer are two of the most overlooked factors that can seriously impact the stability of your PC. More often than not, consumers rely on standard power strips for connecting several devices using a single outlet. If you are already spending hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars on PC equipment, you would be well served to protect your investment with a proper current supply. A run-of-the-mill power strip can run from $7 to $50 for something backed up by a brand name. Tripp Lite charges $89 for its ECO750UPS, an energy-efficient UPS. It provides the added comfort of being able to save your work if a power outage were to occur.
Pro: Tripp Lite suggests you can save up to $50 annually by using its power-efficient UPS system, and that’s only calculating a daily 3-hour runtime on a basic desktop. In addition to the device’s claimed eco-friendliness, you get 12 outlets, which add up in convenience.
Con: You may not know you need a UPS until disaster hits you.
Recommendation: Tripp Lite’s unit tries to appeal with a green approach. It’s hard to say whether that’s enough incentive to go for this particular unit, but I wholeheartedly agree that the small sum to pay is worth in return for 12-outlet convenience, efficient runtime, and UPS protection.
Price: $89.00
