The suspense is over! Yesterday morning, a standing-room-only throng of CES attendees attended the tenth annual Last Gadget Standing event (co-sponsored by Technologizer and LGS creator Robin Raskin’s Living in Digital Times), and witnessed demos–from the straightforward to the wild and crazy–from the ten finalists. Then they voted for their favorite gizmos by clapping, cheering, whistling, hooting, and hollering.

The Last Gadget Standing–as determined by applause-o-meter at the event is Acer’s Iconia, a notebook with two 14-inch screens and a touchscreen interface. And the People’s Choice winner–determined by an online poll–is Barnes & Noble’s Nookcolor “reader’s tablet.”

A few photographic highlights:

The winning gadget, Acer’s Iconia, got a demo that was, well…Enterprising.

Barnes & Noble’s Jonathan Shar, who was supposed to demonstrate the People’s Choice winner, the Nookcolor, couldn’t make it. So his mom filled in.

Nexus S manufacturer Samsung treated us to an intimate conversation with Android 2.3 “Gingerbread.”

We had a few appropriate Vegas trimmings.

The Howard Stern Show‘s Gary Dell’Abate and Jon Hein cohosted the event with Robin and myself, provided a halftime trivia show, and actually helped control the chaos rather than contributing to it.

And our judges, including Engadget’s Joanna Stern (seen here showing off Looxie), introduced demos and explained why the ten finalists had gotten this far.

Thanks to the entrants, our judges, and everyone who voted in person or online or otherwise chimed in as we winnowed hundreds of nominees down to  two winners.

Nice article ! Personally I like to hear about the new technology like Intels "sandy bridge" processor entry this year. But… What I read these articles for is the way cool gadgets, not processor architecture. So in keeping with that let me just say the skinniest "snapscan" was great but I had to VOTE for the Looxie ear mounted Cam!

2013 Press Release

About

Last Gadget Standing

Last Gadget Standing looks for products that are more than just a flash in the pan. They are products that will endure and are pioneering the ways in which the digital world will change. Any exhibitor at CES can enter a product into the Last Gadget Standing competition--though it must be a device, not a service or software. Products need to have shipped during 2012 or be available for shipping by the end of Q2 of 2013. We honor NDAs and we reserve two spaces for products that have winner potential but won't be announced until the show.

Special Hosts

We're extremely lucky this year to have Gary "Bababooey" Dell'Abate and Jon Hein, of the Howard Stern Wrap Up Show to emcee the Last Gadget Standing . They love products and they love the CES crowd.
