The Basis band is the world’s first continuous heart rate and health tracker that works with a web-based personal dashboard to give you a full picture of your health and wellness. Worn on your wrist, the Basis band records your heart rate along with other health measures throughout the day – with no chest strap required. It tracks the way you live — through work, rest and play — by providing calories burned, levels of activity and sleep patterns. You can also share your progress and milestones with friends to stay motivated.

The technical centerpiece of Basis’ device is its optical engine that tracks your heart rate by directing light into the skin to “see” actual blood flow. When this engine is combined with accelerometers and other sensors, Basis allows you to understand not just the number of steps you took, but also the exertion that went into a walk; the quality of your sleep, or how your body reacts to the many aspects of your day. Basis takes you beyond just movement. It takes you all the way to the heart and the secrets it can reveal about your overall health and wellness.

Price: $199

JUDGE’S REMARKS:

This is the year of self monitoring devices and the Basis Band lets you monitor like no other. A simple and elegant band worn as on your wrist, Basis has sensors that data including hear rate, calories burned, physical activity and sleep patterns. Taking self tracking to new levels, the device also tracks galvanic skin response (sweat), body temperature, and blood oxygen level. Transmitting wirelessly to your personal dashboard you can view, share, earn rewards and join the Basis community.

Best Feature: It tracks body data like no other.

Needs work: There’s no feedback on the device you need to connect wirelessly to your Basis dashboard for input.

Finally! We don’t need to guess any more about how healthy we are. With Basis’ health sensors and real-time analytics dashboards, I am no longer blind. Rather, I can identify with precision the specific areas of my health that require immediate or sustained attention – and I can monitor incremental health progress to further motivate me to attain my ultimate goals : to rock on all levels.

The size and simplicity of the instrument and ‘no fuss’ attachment makes it perfect for users that don’t want hooks, clips, straps etc The extent of info that it provides is everything needed to stay in close touch with what our body is experiencing. Perfect !

Finally something that looks normal, and doesn’t require a stop and start. Hope the website can connect your info to many other apps like Withings, for example.

About

Last Gadget Standing

The Last Gadget Standing looks for products that are more than just a flash in the pan. They are products that will endure and are pioneering the ways in which the digital world will change. Any exhibitor at CES can enter a product into the Last Gadget Standing – though it must be a , not a service or software. Products need to have shipped during 2011 or be available for shipping by the end of Q2 of 2012. We honor NDAs and we reserve two spaces for products that have winner potential but won’t be announced until the show.

Old timers, sorry, but we’ve had to include a small entrée fee this year to cover the costs of the production and space. There is a $500 entry fee.

How We Judge Your Products

Our panel of expert judges have multiple years of expertise in reviewing products. Judges include Michael Miller, Harry McCracken, Dan Costa, Mellissa Perenson, and Joanna Stern. Our experts review your applications and narrow the list down to 25 semi-finalists. Each product submitted gets a description on the website and readers are welcome to comment. The judges will write reviews of the 25 semifinalists and we’ll continue to solicit reader comments until we narrow the list down to the Top 10.

The Top Ten finalists are invited to the Vegas stage where we play to a full house. Entertainment and fun are just and important as educating the audience about your product. We encourage you to watch the videos from past years and get a feel for this very different type of event. At the same time that the audience is voting live in Las Vegas we will also be asking our online followers to vote among the same top ten and choose a "people's winner." A press release announcing the winners will go out the moment the show has ended.

Special Host

We’re extremely lucky this year to have Gary “Bababooey” Dell’Abate and Jon Hein, of the Howard Stern Wrap Up Show to emcee the Last Gadget Standing . They love products and they love the CES crowd.
