The PlayStation® Vita offers new game play experiences never before seen on any device, allowing users to interact directly with games in three dimension-like motion, through “touch, grab, trace, push and pull” finger motions. PS Vita incorporates a beautiful 5-inch multi-touch organic light emitting diode (OLED) as the front display and a unique multi-touch pad on the rear. PS Vita also features two analog sticks which enable a wider range of game genres to be brought into the portable experience, such as shooters, action games, and fighting games.

With front and rear cameras, PS Vita can turn kitchen counters into a fight ring or office boardrooms into a battlefield. Augmented Reality (AR) technology for Vita brings players’ physical world into the PlayStation world. Wi-Fi and 3G capabilities pinpoint the location of nearby opponents, send friends on treasure hunts and keep the world updated on players’ rankings. With Wi-Fi or 3G connectivity, consumers can pick up games right where they left off, even from their PS3™ system.

Consumers will also enjoy additional PS Vita features, such as “LiveArea,” an interactive space for each PS Vita software title that allows users to access the latest game information through PlayStation Network; “Near,” a pre-installed application that lets players see what other PS Vita users in the vicinity are playing; and “Party,” which lets consumers voice chat or text chat while playing games or using the Internet browser.

JUDGE’S REMARKS:

Talk about versatility! Vita, SONY’s newest hand held gaming device is unique because of the sheer variety of play experiences. Double your fun, but not your money. The Vita has two cameras, front and rear, as well as two touchpad front and back. The 5-inch OLED screen is beautiful to look and in case you’re lonesome all of your Playstation buttons are there as well as the two joystick controllers. Tactile feedback, and a whopping 6-axis motion sensor system that controls the gyroscope and accelerometer round out the fun.

Best: It’s an engineering feat like no other mobile game platform before it.

Needs Work: You’ll need new to download new versions of your fav games from the PSP store; but there’s no compatibility with Playstation 3. $299 with WiFi; $399 with 3G but only available from AT&T. And, it’s not a phone.

The vita seems like an OK system but I don’t like the price. The PS3 does just as much as this but it’s even lower priced than the vita.

About

Last Gadget Standing

The Last Gadget Standing looks for products that are more than just a flash in the pan. They are products that will endure and are pioneering the ways in which the digital world will change. Any exhibitor at CES can enter a product into the Last Gadget Standing – though it must be a , not a service or software. Products need to have shipped during 2011 or be available for shipping by the end of Q2 of 2012. We honor NDAs and we reserve two spaces for products that have winner potential but won’t be announced until the show.

Old timers, sorry, but we’ve had to include a small entrée fee this year to cover the costs of the production and space. There is a $500 entry fee.

How We Judge Your Products

Our panel of expert judges have multiple years of expertise in reviewing products. Judges include Michael Miller, Harry McCracken, Dan Costa, Mellissa Perenson, and Joanna Stern. Our experts review your applications and narrow the list down to 25 semi-finalists. Each product submitted gets a description on the website and readers are welcome to comment. The judges will write reviews of the 25 semifinalists and we’ll continue to solicit reader comments until we narrow the list down to the Top 10.

The Top Ten finalists are invited to the Vegas stage where we play to a full house. Entertainment and fun are just and important as educating the audience about your product. We encourage you to watch the videos from past years and get a feel for this very different type of event. At the same time that the audience is voting live in Las Vegas we will also be asking our online followers to vote among the same top ten and choose a "people's winner." A press release announcing the winners will go out the moment the show has ended.

Special Host

We’re extremely lucky this year to have Gary “Bababooey” Dell’Abate and Jon Hein, of the Howard Stern Wrap Up Show to emcee the Last Gadget Standing . They love products and they love the CES crowd.
