Perch — it’s a brand-new solution to a growing problem. Chargers are left behind in hotels by the millions, and most companies’ solution is to just sell another charger. There are very few real, practical, affordable solutions to control vampire power. Unfortunately, these are problems most people might not recognize. Currently, there is no single solution that can solve both problems. Until Now, Perch.

On the road and at home, Perch reminds you to unplug your cords. Perch sits between your charger and the wall and chirps when you disconnect, so you don’t leave your cords behind – wasting both time and energy.

Perch — watching your wires.

EDITOR’S REMARKS

These days, most of us travel with a bag full of gadgets, each of which requires its own proprietary charger. When we plug these chargers into outlets behind the bed, in the bathroom, and under the desk of our hotel rooms, it’s far too easy to leave one behind.

Fortunately, the Perch is there to prevent you from losing any of your expensive AC adapters. Simply plug your charger into the Perch and the Perch into the wall. When you remove your device, the Perch will make a chirping sound to remind you to disconnect the charger.

This is a great idea! I have the worst habit of unplugging my phone and leaving the chord in the outlet. I can’t tell you how much energy I’ve wasted or sadly how many chargers I’ve left behind on vacations. this is going to save me so much money.

The lawyers in my firm are constantly leaving their blackberry, Android and iPhone chargers in hotels or vacation homes. This leaves my IT department in short supply. We are constantly ordering spare chargers. A device like this would solve the issue!!!

Great idea. Simple, convenient, reliable, and the chirping gets the job done unobtrusively. There is no system or device in the same league. The chirping is even cool and amusing. Especially for those who travel a lot, bring along with them phones, laptops, and other gadgets, and recharge them in hotel rooms, Perch is a welcome addition.

With four kids I’m so busy that I love any device which helps me! When I get sidetracked (which happens often) the Perch reminds me to unplug, making my home more energy efficient (Saving money— YAY!) and safer (open ended electrical cords and kids don’t mix well).
When we travel, I have so much to pack I could forget my head if it weren’t attatched so this solves remembering one vital item and alleviates the fall out from forgetting the chargers (phone not charged, the inconvienence and cost of buying a new one). Now could somebody create something to remember sippy cup?
Wonderful product!

Great gaget! I’m a very forgetful person and always on the run. I hate having to buy a charger about one every couple months. This is also very affordable. Average cost of charger $25..cost of perch $10..savings of $15. Not having to buy another charger..PRICELESS!!

Am I the only one not drinking the Kool-Aid around here?!

It “chirps when you disconnect” – But most people who leave their phone chargers in hotel rooms DON’T DISCONNECT.

Idiotic solution. For all those who say “I have to buy this” – great – but when you find yourself buying another phone charger AND another Perch, well I told ya so.

Hugh Thurnauer says
December 22, 2011 at 3:24 am

A practical and inexpensive solution to a common problem.

Shannon says
December 23, 2011 at 3:25 am

If you do not disconnect your device, then not only will you be buying a new charger and a new Perch, you will also have to buy a new cell phone, camcorder or laptop.

The idea behind the technology is to prevent you from leaving your charger behind after you disconnect the device.

According to articles in popular newspapers like The Wall Street journal, there are chargers left all the time in Hotels, creating significant landfill issues.

Not to mention the hassle and cost of buying a new charger.

The Dude says
December 23, 2011 at 3:45 am

Besides the fact that you are far less likely to forget your phone or laptop behind in a hotel or someplace, many people still fail to see the another huge benefit of this product: the aggregate energy savings that will be directly associated with this device. Really, just imagine the collective sum of total savings that will one day come when 1 million+ of these things are being used out there in our finite resource world. A enormous reduction in: unnecessary &/or overcharging of batteries; vampire power drains; the cumulative power used per person during the life/use of this device; and other forms of waste, wear-n-tear, and inefficiency. Think of this invention/concept on a grand aggregate scale (also, think green!) and then the only thing you’ll be saying is “I can’t believe this item wasn’t invented much sooner!”

Brian - Perch team says
December 23, 2011 at 1:45 pm

2013 Press Release

About

Last Gadget Standing

Last Gadget Standing looks for products that are more than just a flash in the pan. They are products that will endure and are pioneering the ways in which the digital world will change. Any exhibitor at CES can enter a product into the Last Gadget Standing competition--though it must be a device, not a service or software. Products need to have shipped during 2012 or be available for shipping by the end of Q2 of 2013. We honor NDAs and we reserve two spaces for products that have winner potential but won't be announced until the show.

Special Hosts

We're extremely lucky this year to have Gary "Bababooey" Dell'Abate and Jon Hein, of the Howard Stern Wrap Up Show to emcee the Last Gadget Standing . They love products and they love the CES crowd.
