More than 10 million pets are lost in the U.S. each year. Until now, no one has developed an effective, reliable solution to put pet owners in control of finding their pet in the event that it escapes. Tagg—The Pet Tracker was developed to bring peace of mind to pet owners and to address those millions of pets lost annually. Snaptracs, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm, Inc., designed the only stylish, lightweight, purpose-built pet tracking device that utilizes advanced GPS and wireless technology to locate a pet.
Tagg—The Pet Tracker has earned numerous awards since its launch in August 2011, including being named an International CES Innovations 2012 Design and Engineering Awards Honoree and winning CTIA’s “2011 Hot for the Holidays” award in the Globetrotter category.
How it Works:
The lightweight, water-resistant Tagg tracker attaches to a pet’s existing collar. Using the Tagg website, the owner first designates a Tagg zone (geofence) around the area where the pet spends most of its time. The Tagg zone can range in size from a radius of 75 to 1,000 yards. If the pet escapes and leaves the Tagg zone, the system alerts the owner via text and email so they can quickly find the pet on a map. The owner can track and locate the pet using a web browser on a computer or mobile device, or with the free Tagg app for iPhone or Android. The map shows a paw print icon of the pet’s last known location, along with an estimated street address as of that specific date and time. The pet owner can also activate a continuous tracking feature to display a trail indicating all Tagg tracker locations known to the system since the pet exited the Tagg zone.
The Tagg tracker also features a Trip button, which allows the pet and owner to easily go for walks or errands outside the Tagg zone without triggering alerts. Once the pet is back inside the Tagg zone, alert notifications are no longer suppressed. While the Trip button is activated, pet owners can still have peace of mind, because the Tagg system is constantly monitoring the pet’s location. If the pet gets away, the owner simply logs on to the website via their mobile device or computer to locate the pet on the Tagg map page.
The tracker is meant to be worn at all times, made possible by the long-lasting Li-Ion battery. The battery can last up to 30 days, depending on use, and the owner receives a text or email when the battery runs low. Charging the device is simple and convenient with the Tagg docking station, which can be paired with up to ten trackers.
Created for dogs and cats over 10 lbs., the design of the Tagg system integrates innovative technology into a sleek and stylish device. The tracker antenna is elegantly molded into the tracker strap, helping to keep the tracker compact and lightweight (1.15 ounces). Engineered to withstand a pet’s daily activities, from swimming to rolling around, the tracker is as comfortable as it is tough. The tracker’s contemporary design complements a pet’s existing collar, and it is currently available in gray, white, pink, and blue.
To ensure privacy, Snaptracs, Inc. has designed specific protections into the Tagg system to ensure user privacy remains under the user’s control. All communication with the Tagg tracker is encrypted, and the Tagg system will only report location information to authorized Tagg servers. Access to the user’s location information stored on Tagg servers is stored behind a restricted access network and protected by the user’s password. Tagg service is provided on the Verizon Wireless network, giving pet parents reliable access to tracking information via its nationwide coverage.
Priced at $99.95, Tagg—The Pet Tracker includes the Tagg tracker, docking station, collar clip assembly, power kit, and one month of service. After 30 days, service is $7.95 per month. Additional trackers for families with more than one pet are available for $89.95 with each month of service costing just 95 cents.
